As part of its CSR program, Spotware proudly hosted its first blood donation event at its Limassol office on 3rd December, 2024, demonstrating our commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. The Cyprus Blood Establishment plays a vital role in saving lives and improving the quality of life for countless patients. From individuals undergoing surgeries to those battling cancer, hematological disorders, and thalassemia, as well as victims of accidents and children in pediatric oncology, the need for blood and its derivatives is a constant reality. This life-saving resource depends entirely on the generosity and altruism of blood donors.
Cyprus stands out as one of the few countries worldwide meeting 100% of its blood needs through voluntary, unpaid donations. With around 67,000 blood units collected annually, a remarkable figure considering the country’s small population - Cyprus ranks first in Europe for blood donations per capita. Youth participation in blood donation is notably high, ensuring a steady replenishment of donors as older individuals retire from eligibility.
The dedication of blood donors has been a testament to the country’s spirit of solidarity, even in times of crisis, such as the Mari explosion, when donation centers overflowed with volunteers eager to help. Despite occasional challenges during holidays, extreme weather, or epidemics, the unwavering support of the community enables the Blood Establishment to overcome hurdles and maintain a stable supply.
